How to start a fundraiser for Lebanon

We are students who started with a table, a poster board, and an online page. Here is how we did it, so you can run something similar for displaced families in Lebanon.

Last updated 12 October 2026

1. Pick a goal and where the money goes

Decide what the money is for before you ask for it. Ours pays for care packages: food that keeps, hygiene products like soap and toothpaste, and the essentials families tell us they need. We deliver them with local organizations. Our online goal is $1,000.

Pick an organization you can name and verify. Our list of Lebanon relief organizations may help.

2. Set up an online donation page

People who cannot come to your event still want to give. We use GoFundMe, which protects donations with its Giving Guarantee. Write the story in your own words, say who is running it, and say what the money will do.

3. Choose a simple event

A bake sale is easy to start and easy to explain. Our Bethesda bake sale raised over $450. Our Pike & Rose bake sale raised over $250. Check your local rules about selling food or setting up in public, and ask the place where you plan to set up.

4. Prepare your table

  • A folding table and a hand-drawn Lebanese flag as a banner.
  • A price sign on poster board that people can read from the street.
  • Homemade cookies and brownies, wrapped in small bags.
  • Phoenician bracelets sold next to the baked goods.

Our sign read: $3 for 1 cookie, $4 for 2 cookies, $2 for 1 brownie, and $7 for 1 Phoenician bracelet. Simple prices make it quick to buy.

5. Tell people

Post before and after the event. We used Instagram and added “Anything helps. Link in bio to donate”. Put your donation link where people will see it, and tell friends and family directly.

6. Thank people and report the results

After each sale, we posted how much we raised and thanked everyone who stopped by. Telling people what happened builds trust and makes them more likely to help again. Keep a simple record of what you collected and where it went.
